2012 CONTEST: March 24, 2012, 10 a.m.
This speech contest is open to all Humboldt County high school juniors and seniors, including students in charter schools and homeschools. Contestants are to research, write, and present an original pro-life speech, 5-7 minutes in length, on abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, or stem cell research. Judges will score the contestants in 4 areas: introduction, content, presentation, and conclusion. The contest will take place in the library at St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Eureka.
The winning contestant will compete at the California Pro-Life Council (CPLC) Oratory Contest in Sacramento, date TBA, with $500 paid toward expenses. The winner of the CPLC contest will compete in the National Right-to-Life Oratory Contest at the National Right-to-Life Convention on June 30, 2012, in Pittsburgh, PA.

2010 CONTEST: March 20, 2010
The third annual Humboldt Respect Life Jacqueline Kasun Oratory Contest was held on March 20, 2010. Contestants in the event spoke on a variety of subjects. The speakers were Gillian Bryson (1st Place) - "Infanticide;" Matthew Hildebrandt (2nd Place) - "Stem Cell Research: a Flawed Experiment;" Taylor Wilson (3rd Place) - "Stem Cell Research;" Hannah Watson - "Abortion;" and Alexia Nyberg - "Abortion."

April 24, 2010 CPLC Youth Oratory Contestants: Gillian Bryson (Humboldt Regional), Aaron Willis (Sonoma Regional), Lauren Hernandez-McKarus (Ventura Regional) WINNER, Claire Stevens (San Joaquin Regional), Joseph Jackson (Tulare Regional), Emily Bruce (Stanislaus Regional), Kenneth Preston Gurr Mous (Merced Regional), John Vivencio Canga Abellana (San Mateo Regional).
Lauren Hernandez-McKarus will continue on to the National Right to Life Convention, June 26th in Pittsburgh, PA, to compete in the NRLC Oratory Contest.

April 25, 2009 California Pro-Life Council Oratory Contest Report: 5 contestants from around the State participated in the California Pro-Life Council State Finals, held in the Capitol Building in Sacramento. The winner was Spencer Amaral, speaking on "What Price Liberty?" He will go on to the National Right to Life competion in June in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Geoffrey Geoffrey Plourde (second from left) was the winner of the 2009 Humboldt Respect Life Jacqueline Kasun Oratory Contest, held March 28th. Pictured are Stephen Papstein, placing 3rd, Plourde, Andrew Rutledge, placing 2nd, and Jae Hee Cho. All of the contestants spoke on the issue of abortion. Trophies were presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and Plourde continued on to the California Pro-Life Council State competition in Sacramento on April 25th, with all expenses paid by Humboldt Pro-Life.

Dalrae Jin (placing 3rd),Trevor David (winner), and Catherine Macan (placing 2nd) were the contestants in the 2008 Humboldt Respect Life Jacqueline Kasun Oratory Contest. Trevor David chose the topic of Abortion for his winning speech. Catherine Macan also spoke on Abortion, and Dalrae Jin spoke on Euthanasia.
